Two people shot at Oakland graduation ceremony

OAKLAND, CA – Chaos erupted at Skyline High School on Thursday night when gunfire interrupted the school’s graduation ceremony, leaving two adults injured. Oakland Police Lt. Robert Trevino reported that officers were dispatched to the scene around 7:45 p.m. following calls about a shooting inside the school.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims, whose ages were not disclosed, were transported to a nearby hospital and were reported to be in stable condition later that evening.

The California Highway Patrol joined Oakland police in securing the school and searching the premises. By late evening, officials confirmed that the school was safe and clear of any immediate threats. “Our officers are highly trained for critical incidents, and we managed to evacuate everyone safely without further injuries,” Trevino stated during a press briefing.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting stemmed from a dispute, although the exact circumstances remain unclear. Authorities are working to determine the number of shots fired and are actively seeking to identify the suspects involved. No descriptions of the suspects or any associated vehicles were available as of Thursday night.

The incident has left the community shaken, particularly as it occurred during a moment of celebration for the graduating class of 2024. Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to contact the Oakland Police Department’s Felony Assault Unit at 510-238-3426.
