Two Teens Arrested After South Dallas Party Shooting

Six people were wounded in the Oct. 4 shooting on South Barry Avenue, and police say none suffered life-threatening injuries.

DALLAS, TX — Dallas police have arrested two teenagers in connection with an early-morning shooting outside a South Dallas gathering that sent six people to hospitals earlier this month, according to police and court records cited by local media.

The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation of the Oct. 4 shooting in the 1400 block of South Barry Avenue. Police said 17-year-old Martin Padilla was arrested Oct. 20, while a 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody Oct. 14. Authorities have charged both teenagers with multiple counts of aggravated assault involving the discharge of a firearm at an occupied building, home or vehicle. The younger suspect has not been publicly identified.

Dallas police officers were called to South Barry Avenue at about 3:10 a.m. Oct. 4 after reports of gunfire. The department said six people were wounded. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported at least three of them to a hospital, while the others arrived at hospitals on their own. Police said none of the injuries was considered life-threatening.

The Dallas Police Department initially said its investigation indicated that a driver and someone in a crowd exchanged gunfire before the vehicle involved crashed into a light pole while trying to leave the area. At the time of the shooting, police released few details about what led to the confrontation and did not announce any arrests.

A later arrest affidavit described events leading up to the shooting in greater detail, according to FOX 4. The report said a group had learned about a party at the South Barry Avenue home through Instagram and tried to attend. Members of the group became involved in an argument with security guards at the property and were told to leave.

According to the affidavit as reported by FOX 4, the group left in a Volkswagen SUV. Investigators allege that people inside the vehicle opened fire toward security guards. A security guard told investigators that Padilla, who was driving the SUV, also fired a weapon. The SUV later struck a pole, and people inside the vehicle fled on foot, the report said. Those allegations have not been proven in court.

Padilla was later arrested at J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, FOX 4 reported, citing the arrest affidavit. The location where authorities arrested the 16-year-old has not been publicly disclosed. Police also have not released the juvenile suspect’s identity, consistent with the handling of many juvenile criminal cases.

There is a discrepancy in public reports about the number of charges filed against Padilla. An Oct. 27 update from the Dallas Police Department listed five counts of aggravated assault involving discharge of a firearm at an occupied building, house or vehicle. A FOX 4 report published Oct. 28, citing an arrest affidavit and Dallas County Jail information, said Padilla faced six counts. The police update listed six counts against the 16-year-old. Authorities had not publicly explained the difference as of Wednesday.

FOX 4 reported that Padilla remained in the Dallas County Jail on a $600,000 bond. Police have not publicly identified the six people who were wounded or released detailed information about their ages. No life-threatening injuries were reported in the department’s initial account of the shooting.

The investigation remains active under Dallas police case No. 146047-2026. Authorities have not publicly announced whether additional arrests or charges are expected, and several details surrounding the exchange of gunfire remain unresolved.
