MURFREESBORO, TN – A recently released bodycam footage has shed light on a fatal police shooting incident in Tennessee. The video reveals a police officer shooting a man who allegedly attempted to rob an armored car employee and later confronted the officer with two knives.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a distress call about an attempted robbery at an ATM. The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Steven James Murphy, allegedly tried to rob an employee who was refilling cash in the ATM.
The employee managed to pull a gun on Murphy, who then sought refuge in a nearby deli, according to Murfreesboro Police spokesperson Larry Flowers.
The bodycam footage shows Officer Adam Claiborne entering the deli and encountering Murphy behind the counter. Upon seeing the officer, Murphy reportedly charged at him, brandishing knives in both hands above his head.
The video further shows Claiborne ordering Murphy to drop the knives before discharging his weapon multiple times. Murphy was later pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries.
The incident, which left the officer, the armored car worker, and six deli employees unharmed, is currently under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
