Waffle House shooting leaves 1 dead, 5 injured

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Tragedy struck a Waffle House on South Lynhurst Drive, Indianapolis, in the early hours of Monday, when a violent episode left one dead and five others with gunshot injuries. The shooting is understood to have erupted as a result of a dispute between two groups, according to initial information.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a shooting report at about 12:40 a.m. and discovered five wounded individuals at the scene. One woman, critically injured, died later at the hospital. Her identity will be disclosed by the Marion County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin has been informed.

Four other victims, three men and one woman, are reported as stable. A sixth gunshot victim, a man currently in critical condition, appeared at a hospital either by himself or with assistance.

Detectives are still trying to determine whether any of the wounded individuals were also shooters, and they are scouring available video surveillance footage to aid the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency has been tasked with identifying forensic evidence.
