Wendy’s worker shot in drive-through argument

CHICAGO, IL – A 20-year-old Wendy’s employee was injured in a shooting in West Chatham early Thursday morning, Chicago city police report. The incident took place just before 1 am at the Wendy’s outlet located on South Lafayette Avenue. An argument sparked between the employee, who was stationed at the drive-through window, and a man.

The argument escalated quickly, leading to the man opening fire, shattering the drive-through window, and injuring the employee in her right arm.

First responders quickly transported the victim to the University of Chicago Hospital. She is expected to recover from her injuries.

The victim’s mother gave a detailed account of the incident. She stated the conflict began over a supposed DoorDash order. The driver claimed to have a DoorDash order to collect, but the worker didn’t find any such order in the system. As the driver insisted on remaking the order, the situation escalated, prompting the worker to take a manager’s assistance, followed by the driver’s gunshot.

Wendy’s is cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation and assures to prioritize employee safety.

No official response from DoorDash has been made on whether there was a glitch or order from the restaurant at the time of the event. The police department is currently on the lookout for the shooter.
