Winners Announced at the 2024 MUAHS Awards: Maestro, Saltburn, and Barbie Take Home Multiple Awards!

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The 11th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards took place at The Beverly Hilton, with “Maestro,” “Saltburn,” and “Barbie” emerging as the big film winners of the night.

Netflix’s “Maestro” and Amazon MGM Studios’ “Saltburn” were dual winners, with Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein pic winning Best Period and/or Character Make-up and Special Make-up Effects. On the other hand, Emerald Fennell’s darkly comic thriller “Saltburn” took home the awards for Best Contemporary Make-up and Contemporary Hair Styling.

In contrast, Warner Bros’ “Barbie” claimed the Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling award. Unfortunately, none of the film winners were present to receive their trophies at the event.

Since the inception of the MUAHS Awards in 2014, a marquee film winner for makeup or hair has gone on to claim the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar every year – except in 2022. The Academy Award went to “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” which was up for three of the guild’s awards but went home empty-handed.

Among the evening’s MUAHS winners, only “Maestro” is nominated for the Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar, going up against “Golda,” “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things,” and “Society of the Snow.”

The 2023 MUAHS ceremony saw “Elvis” as the big film winner, taking home prizes for Both character hair and makeup, alongside “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Whale,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Comedian and “Young Sheldon” co-star Melissa Peterman hosted the ceremony, kicking off the evening with a lighthearted introduction.

The first award of the night went to “The Young and the Restless,” followed by the presentation of the MUAHS Lifetime Achievement Awards to Kevin Haney and Ora T. Green. MainActivity Walsh also received the group’s Vanguard Award for his outstanding contributions to the industry.

Throughout the evening, various film and television productions were honored across different categories, showcasing the exceptional talent and creativity of makeup artists and hair stylists in the entertainment industry.

This year’s Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards featured a diverse range of winners, spanning from feature length motion pictures and television series to theatrical productions and children and teen television programming. The event aimed to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of artisans in the entertainment industry worldwide.
