Winners Announced for MUAHS Awards 2024 – Full List of Winners Inside!

LOS ANGELES, California – The 11th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards, recently held at The Beverly Hilton, honored the best in the film and television industry. The big film winners of the night included “Maestro,” “Saltburn,” and “Barbie.” “Maestro” and “Saltburn” took home dual awards, with “Barbie” also claiming a significant win.

Netflix’s “Maestro” and Amazon MGM Studios’ “Saltburn” won big, with “Maestro” taking the Best Period and/or Character Make-up and Special Make-up Effects awards, and “Saltburn” winning Best Contemporary Make-up and Contemporary Hair Styling. Warner Bros’ “Barbie” also emerged victorious, claiming the Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling award.

One interesting statistic to note is that since the start of the MUAHS Awards in 2014, nearly all of the marquee film winners for makeup or hair have gone on to win the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar, with one exception in 2022. In that year, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” was nominated for three of the guild’s awards but did not win. Among this year’s winners, only “Maestro” has received a Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar nomination, competing against “Golda,” “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things,” and “Society of the Snow.”

The event saw the return of Melissa Peterman, co-star of “Young Sheldon,” as the host. The first award of the night was presented to “The Young and the Restless,” following a slight mix-up in the announcement. More awards were handed out in various film and television categories, with “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical” sweeping the theatrical hair styling and make-up awards.

The prestigious Distinguished Artisan honor was presented to five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening during the ceremony. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Kevin Haney, an Oscar- and Emmy-winning makeup artist, and Ora T. Green, an Emmy-nominated hair stylist. Michael Westmore also received the Vanguard Award for his groundbreaking work in makeup artistry.

The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, established in 1937, boasts more than 2,300 artisans in the entertainment industry worldwide. The prestigious awards ceremony recognizes and celebrates outstanding talent in the makeup and hairstyling industry.
