Wisconsin officer fatally shoots armed motorist

NORTH FOND DU LAC, WI – A tense encounter with an armed motorist ended in a fatal shooting by a Wisconsin police officer, as reported by authorities on Saturday. The incident occurred in the village of North Fond du Lac, Winnebago County.

The series of events began on Friday night when the motorist attempted to evade a routine traffic stop. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation revealed that this led to a police pursuit.

To halt the fleeing motorist, law enforcement strategically placed a tire deflation device on the interstate. The maneuver successfully forced the vehicle to a stop.

In a twist of events, the driver placed a 911 call, revealing possession of a firearm. The driver then exited the vehicle and advanced towards the officers. It was at this point that one of the officers fired at the motorist, resulting in a fatal wound. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident left no officers injured. The officer involved in the shooting has been temporarily relieved of active duty, in line with the department’s standard protocol.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is spearheading the investigation into the shooting. The Wisconsin State Patrol and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office are also part of the investigative team. The findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the Winnebago County district attorney.
