Woman dies, man injured in shooting at illegal party

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A Texas woman tragically lost her life, while a man was injured during a shooting at an illegal social gathering, authorities report. Deputies received a call about the shooting occurring at a “rave-like party” around 4 a.m. on March 9 in southwest San Antonio, as reported by Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar during a Facebook news briefing.

According to Salazar, local authorities confirmed that the party took place in a former Knights of Columbus hall, which should have been vacant. He added that the building’s water and electricity were illegally tapped.

The sheriff stated that the event was promoted across social media, and according to witnesses, the building was teeming with attendees when shots broke out. Though the trigger for the shooting remains unknown, it seems to have resulted from a “disagreement” involving two or more groups. Amidst the turmoil, a 21-year-old woman was fatally shot, and a 29-year-old man was injured and had to be hospitalized.

Salazar expressed his dismay over witnesses capturing a video of the dying woman. Despite the scores of attendees, over two dozen of them had stuck around when deputies reached the scene, and they reportedly hadn’t provided useful information, Salazar commented. He then called upon others present to aid investigators by discussing the night’s occurrences or providing any recorded footage.

The number of shooters involved remains a mystery, though authorities suspect there may have been multiple. Deputies detained an unidentified man who returned to the party venue to find his cell phone, supposedly spotted with blood-stained pants. However, no evidence currently points towards his involvement in the shooting.

The public can reach the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office to provide information regarding the incident.
