Woman found dead on her front porch

KNIGHTDALE, NC – A homicide investigation is underway in Knightdale as police delve into the shooting death of a woman on Wednesday evening. Identified as 40-year-old Shinaka Ocean Earth, the victim was found with gunshot wounds on her front porch.

Knightdale Police Department units responded to incoming reports of a shooting in the Widewaters neighborhood just prior to 8 p.m. Despite life-saving attempts by first responders, Earth was pronounced dead at the scene.

As investigations commenced in the 600 block of Twain Town Drive, an ABC11 team on-site saw over 50 evidence markers laid out on the road near a house. Additionally, several neighbors recounted hearing multiple gunshots that evening.

The Knightdale Police Chief, Lawrence Capps, verified that no arrests have been made thus far. However, authorities reassured residents on Thursday that the incident was isolated, posing no risk to public safety.

Mayor Jessica Day of Knightdale addressed the unsettling event in a statement released Thursday evening. She passionately denounced the violence that struck her town, extending sincere condolences to Earth’s family and all those traumatized by the incident.

Day underscored the importance of unity against violence and supporting local law enforcement in their pursuit of justice. She expressed confidence in the Knightdale Police Department and the community’s strength.
