Woman kills her friend after failed suicide pact

UTAH COUNTY, UT – A woman in Utah County has been arrested in connection with a failed suicide pact after police claim she shot and killed a friend who was allegedly too frightened to end her own life. Heavenly Faith Garfield, 21, was taken into custody on Tuesday and is currently held without bail.

Garfield’s father dialed 911 before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday to report the fatal shooting. He informed the authorities that Garfield and the 21-year-old victim had reached a suicide pact, which resulted in his daughter shooting her friend around 10:45 a.m., according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The affidavit also revealed that the two women had been contemplating this suicide pact for some weeks, information disclosed by family members. The identity of the victim remains unreleased.

Police documents indicated that a friend of the victim had received a text from her stating her intention to commit suicide. However, the text also expressed her apprehension about carrying out the action. This friend reportedly informed the police about the suicide pact that existed between the victim and Garfield.

When detectives arrived at the scene, they discovered a 9mm bullet in close proximity to the victim’s body.

Garfield’s mother was unreachable for comment. Jail records did not indicate legal representation for Garfield.
