Young mother killed in front of her child

ATLANTA, GA – In a horrifying episode that occurred during the early morning hours on Saturday, 21-year-old Nejha Cox was shot dead in Atlanta’s Carey Park area. According to the Atlanta Police Department, Cox was killed near Hollywood Road Northwest at approximately 2 a.m, while her child was present inside of the car.

Information about a separate crime scene identified on the 2500 block of Center St. NW surfaced. Atlanta police, after viewing surveillance footage, initially suspected the shooting to be a drive-by. Subsequent clarification, however, shifted focus toward three men who were likely on foot at the time of the fatal incident.

The presence of Cox’s child in the car during the shooting accentuated the severity of the incident. In pursuit of further leads and evidence, the Atlanta Police Department is closely studying the available video footage.

Based on crime data from the Atlanta Police, the Carey Park neighborhood has seen a disturbing trend with five serious assaults since March this year. Residents feel an unsettling normalcy of violence, include open-daylight incidents, as revealed by a long-time local dwelling anonymous respondent.

The Atlanta Police Department is urging anyone with relevant information about the shooting to reach out to CrimeStoppers.
