Zebra Escapes from Trailer: Captured After 6 Days Near Riverbend Neighborhood

North Bend, Washington – After nearly six days on the loose, a female zebra was safely captured in the Riverbend neighborhood, bringing a wild chase to an end on Friday night. The zebra, part of a group of four en route to Montana, managed to evade capture until now.

The owner of the zebras was transporting them from Winlock, Washington, to Anaconda, Montana when a trailer mishap near North Bend led to the escape. Three of the zebras were quickly apprehended and continued their journey, leaving “Shug” as the lone runaway.

Residents and passersby in North Bend and the Snoqualmie Valley spotted Shug roaming freely in the area for days. The long hunt for the elusive zebra came to a successful conclusion when a joint effort between private citizens and Regional Animal Services of King County led to her safe capture.

Despite her extended adventure in the woods, the zebra appears to be in good health. Regional Animal Services of King County expressed gratitude to various agencies and individuals for their support in rescuing Shug, including the King County Sheriff’s Office, King County Parks, the Washington State Patrol, the city of North Bend, and local residents.

Shug will now be transported to Montana, reuniting her with the rest of the zebra group.
