20-year-old with a criminal past dies in shootout with police

VALPARAISO, IN – A young man, previously known for resisting law enforcement, lost his life in a police pursuit in northwestern Indiana, according to court records. The individual, identified as 20-year-old Caden Mura of Valparaiso, was fatally wounded in a shootout with local and county officers last Thursday.

Mura’s past legal encounters include a guilty plea to a charge of resisting law enforcement last fall, as per court documents. The Times of Northwest Indiana reported this detail, shedding light on the deceased’s history with law enforcement.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal incident are still under scrutiny. The cause and manner of Mura’s death are pending, awaiting autopsy and toxicology results, as stated by the coroner’s office.

Indiana State Police, who have taken over the investigation due to the nature of the incident, reported that officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Valparaiso’s Fairgrounds Park. The call was in response to a suspicious individual brandishing a handgun.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the suspect, later identified as Mura, attempted to flee. This led to a foot chase and subsequent exchange of gunfire. Mura sustained injuries during the shootout and was transported to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
