Actor Alan Ritchson opens up about surviving multiple sexual assaults and attempted suicide, finding hope in his sons’ vision.

Encino, California – Alan Ritchson bravely shared his personal struggle with suicide attempts and trauma from sexual assaults. The actor known for TV series like “Blue Mountain State” and “Smallville,” along with his current role in Prime Video’s “Reacher,” recounted a terrifying moment when he hung himself in his home’s attic using a green extension cord. However, a vision of his sons in their mid-30s prompted him to save himself before it was too late.

After his suicide attempt, Ritchson sought help and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 36. Later, at 40, he learned he had been living with ADHD as well. The actor explained that he had endured years of sexual abuse in both the modeling industry and the acting world, which eventually led to a breaking point for him.

Ritchson detailed a grim incident where he was sexually assaulted by a prominent photographer during a modeling shoot. He subsequently left the modeling industry for good. Transitioning into TV and film, Ritchson faced another traumatic experience when a business partner threatened him with false allegations of sexual assault, leading to further deterioration of his mental health.

Despite the challenges he faced, Ritchson has been proactive in seeking help and managing his mental health struggles. He regularly engages with a psychiatrist and has found purpose in advocating for mental health awareness.
