A man remained in critical condition after authorities said a dispute continued from a shopping center into a car-to-car confrontation.
SACRAMENTO, CA — A man was critically wounded Wednesday evening in a shooting on East Stockton Boulevard after an argument that began at a nearby Sam’s Club, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded shortly after 6 p.m. Sept. 9 to the 7900 block of East Stockton Boulevard following reports of gunfire in the roadway. They found a man who had been shot multiple times and began providing emergency medical care before he was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Investigators later determined that an argument between two people had started at the Sam’s Club near Power Inn and Calvine roads. Authorities said the dispute continued after the people left the shopping center and moved onto East Stockton Boulevard, where the shooting occurred.
The Sheriff’s Office described the incident as a car-to-car shooting. Officials had not released additional details Thursday about what caused the initial argument or what happened between the confrontation at the store and the gunfire on the roadway.
Deputies gave the wounded man emergency aid at the scene before paramedics transported him to a hospital. Authorities had not released his name or provided an updated condition beyond saying he was critically injured.
The Sam’s Club connected to the dispute is located at 8250 Power Inn Road in Sacramento, near East Stockton Boulevard. The shooting itself was reported nearby in the 7900 block of East Stockton Boulevard rather than inside the store.
Authorities said the person suspected in the shooting fled the scene. As of the latest reports, investigators had not announced an arrest or released a description of the suspect or suspect vehicle.
No information had been released indicating that anyone else was wounded. Investigators also had not publicly identified the people involved in the original argument or disclosed whether they knew each other before the confrontation.
The investigation remained active Thursday, with the circumstances leading to the gunfire, the identity of the shooter and the wounded man’s latest medical condition not publicly released.
