A woman and a man were hospitalized after the Wednesday afternoon attack on West 47th Street in Manhattan.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — Two people were stabbed Wednesday afternoon in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, and police were searching for a suspect as investigators worked to determine what led to the attack.
The stabbing was reported at about 2:45 p.m. Sept. 9 on West 47th Street, according to police information cited by local news outlets. A woman and a man in his 30s suffered stab wounds and were taken to a hospital for treatment. No arrest had been announced as of early Thursday.
Published reports differed on some early details of the investigation. FOX 5 New York, citing the NYPD, reported that officers found a 35-year-old woman with stab wounds at 400 West 47th Street and a man in his 30s who had also been stabbed. An updated Eyewitness News report carried by AOL placed the incident at 440 West 47th Street and said the woman was 35.
The later Eyewitness News account said the woman had been stabbed in the back and neck and the man suffered a wound to his torso. Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai West and were listed in stable condition, according to that report. Earlier reporting from FOX 5 said the man had initially been transported in critical condition.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene outside the building after the stabbing. Eyewitness News reported that a man was seen on a stoop as people nearby tried to get him medical help. A neighbor told the station that he had heard an argument shortly before the violence and later encountered the injured woman near the building entrance.
Police had not released the names of either victim or identified the person investigators were seeking. Authorities also had not announced a possible motive or publicly established the relationship, if any, between the victims and the suspect.
Investigators were still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Police said the suspect fled in an unknown direction, and no description of the person sought had been publicly released in the reports reviewed.
Some initial details remained inconsistent across news reports, including the precise street address and the woman’s age. Those differences can occur during the early stages of a developing investigation, and authorities had not publicly clarified all of the discrepancies by early Thursday.
The NYPD investigation remained ongoing, with no arrests announced and no confirmed motive released.
