Arlington Shooting Leaves 18-Year-Old Dead in Fort Worth

Police found shell casings at an Arlington apartment complex after the wounded teenager reached a gas station several miles away.

ARLINGTON, TX — An 18-year-old man died early Sunday after he was shot at an Arlington apartment complex and later found wounded at a gas station in neighboring Fort Worth, according to police.

The shooting was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Oct. 25 in the 3100 block of East Park Row Drive. Arlington police said officers went to the apartment complex at about 2:54 a.m. after a resident reported hearing what sounded like gunfire. Officers initially did not find an injured person or clear evidence that anyone had been shot.

About 30 minutes later, Fort Worth police notified Arlington investigators that they had encountered an 18-year-old shooting victim at a gas station in the 6600 block of Brentwood Stair Road. A witness who was with the victim told officers the shooting had happened at the Arlington apartment complex, police said.

The teenager suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the Fort Worth location. His name had not been publicly released Sunday. Authorities also had not announced a motive or identified the person who fired the shot.

After receiving the information from Fort Worth officers, Arlington police returned to the apartment complex and found multiple shell casings in the parking lot. Detectives are treating the case as a homicide and are working to determine what happened before the shooting and who was responsible.

Early reports described the victim as having driven from Arlington into Fort Worth after being shot. Later information released by Arlington police said a witness was with the victim at the Fort Worth gas station but did not specify who drove the vehicle between the two cities. The witness was not injured and has been cooperating with investigators.

Fort Worth police said officers responded to the Brentwood Stair Road location shortly after 3 a.m. Because investigators believe the shooting occurred in Arlington, Fort Worth authorities referred questions about the homicide investigation to the Arlington Police Department.

No arrests had been announced as of Sunday evening. Police had not released a description of a possible shooter or disclosed what may have led to the gunfire. Detectives were continuing to review evidence and interview people connected to the case.

Arlington police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department. Investigators said their immediate focus remained identifying the shooter and establishing the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
