Two people were killed and three injured during a shooting Saturday night in George, Washington that occurred at a campground near the Gorge Amphitheater during the ongoing Beyond Wonderland music festival.
A suspect was apprehended by police and taken into custody, but he was shot in the altercation and hospitalized. Afterwards, patrons of the music festival received a public alert to “run, hide or fight”, with no plan to evacuate the festival. Instead, gatherings and music continued until early Sunday morning.
Although the shooter targeted the festival’s overflow camping area, many of the people who were staying there were likely at the concert at the time. Organizers of the Beyond Wonderland music festival cancelled the Sunday events planned at the Gorge in response to the shooting.
At present, the identity of the victims is unknown and an independent special investigation unit from North Central Washington is launching an inquiry into the circumstances of the fatal tragedy.
