Bond Denied for Woman Charged in Killing of 18-Year-Old Girl

Jamorria McClinton is accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Alliyah White at a Rock Hill home early Saturday.

ROCK HILL, SC — A judge denied bond Sunday for a 22-year-old Rock Hill woman charged with murder in the shooting death of an 18-year-old who had recently graduated from high school.

Jamorria A’riel McClinton is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the death of Alliyah White, according to Rock Hill police and local news reports. White was found with a fatal gunshot wound on the back patio of a home in the 800 block of Horseman Drive early Saturday.

Officers were called to the home at about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 1 after a report of gunfire. Police said White died at the scene. Several residents told WSOC-TV that they heard a single gunshot in the neighborhood.

Detectives identified McClinton as a suspect during the investigation. Police said officers arrested her later Saturday at a relative’s home. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, authorities said.

McClinton appeared in court Sunday morning for a bond hearing. Bond was denied, and she remained in custody. Court records describing any future hearings or whether she had retained an attorney were not immediately available.

Police have not said what led to the shooting or described the relationship between White and McClinton. Authorities also have not released details about who owned the home or why the two women were there.

Friends told WSOC-TV that White had recently graduated from South Pointe High School. A longtime resident described the area as a quiet community and said neighbors were shocked by the killing. Police have not released a statement from White’s family.

The charges against McClinton are allegations. She has not been convicted, and prosecutors will be required to prove the case in court. Under South Carolina law, a murder charge is handled in circuit court, where a higher court may later consider bond.

The Rock Hill Police Department continued to investigate the shooting. No additional arrests had been announced, and authorities had not disclosed a possible motive as of Monday.
