Chicago man charged with fatal shooting of wife and daughter

A tragic incident unfolded in Chicago when a man allegedly shot and killed his wife and young daughter, while also injuring his son. The devastating event occurred less than two weeks after the wife had filed an order of protection against her husband. The suspect, Jose Alvarez, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery. This article delves into the details surrounding the case and the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Jose Alvarez, a 67-year-old man from Little Village, has reportedly been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery. The charges stem from an incident in which Alvarez allegedly shot and killed his wife and young daughter, while also injuring his son. The wife, Karina Gonzalez, had recently filed an order of protection against Alvarez.

Assistant State’s Attorney Anne McCord Rodgers revealed in court that Gonzalez had obtained an order of protection against her husband on June 21st. However, the order was not served as Alvarez was not at home at the time. The couple’s two children, a 15-year-old daughter named Daniela Alvarez and an 18-year-old son, temporarily moved out of the family home. They returned after Alvarez agreed to enter rehab.

Tragically, shortly after midnight on Monday, Alvarez accused Gonzalez of infidelity. Rodgers stated that Alvarez had a history of alcohol problems and had been verbally abusive towards Gonzalez for years. When Alvarez’s son threatened to call the police, Alvarez retrieved a gun and shot Gonzalez and Daniela in the living room. The son, identified as Emmanuel Alvarez, attempted to hide but was also shot and wounded before managing to escape.

Gonzalez succumbed to her injuries at the scene, having been shot eight times. Daniela was rushed to a local hospital but tragically passed away from her injuries. Alvarez has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26th.

In the wake of this devastating incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Emmanuel Alvarez. The funds raised will go towards his medical expenses, as well as the funeral and memorial services for his mother and sister. The campaign has already garnered over $19,000 in donations.
