Houston, Texas – A Texas woman was arrested for leaving her 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter home alone while she went on a cruise vacation. Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, faces charges of abandoning a child with the intent to return, according to a criminal complaint filed against her.
Deputies from the Harris County Constable’s Office conducted a wellness check on the children after receiving a call from concerned neighbors who saw Williams leaving her apartment with bags and luggage but not returning. Upon entering the apartment, deputies found it in disarray, with trash and leftover food scattered around and a strong smell of urine present.
There were no adults present to supervise the children, leading deputies to believe that none had been around since Williams’ departure. However, they discovered a camera that Williams used to monitor and communicate with the kids during her absence, as well as her son’s cell phone that he used to text her.
Williams did not cooperate with authorities when contacted about the situation, and she provided conflicting information about her whereabouts. The Houston Fire Department was called to ensure the children were in good health and not malnourished, and Child Protective Services intervened before releasing the kids to their aunt.
