Ex-boyfriend breaks into woman’s home, stabs man

ASHEVILLE, NC – A 26-year-old Asheville man, Thomas Nakia Bellamy Jr., has been sentenced to 83-112 months in prison after pleading guilty to a December 2021 violent assault. Bellamy was convicted of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and inflicting major injuries on a man found at the residence.

Bellamy pleaded guilty on April 9 to felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony breaking and entering, and misdemeanor damage to real property, all related to the 2021 assault.

Asheville Police responded to a 911 call in December 2021 regarding a break-in at the Lee Garden Apartment complex. Bellamy, seen fleeing the scene in a large coat and jeans, was apprehended in possession of a folding-blade knife. In the invaded apartment, officers discovered a man with multiple abdominal stab wounds. The victim was promptly taken to Mission Hospital.

The caller, Bellamy’s ex-girlfriend and occupant of the apartment, reported receiving text messages from Bellamy right before his violent misconduct. He had stated his presence outside her apartment, seeking entry. When denied, he forcibly entered, stabbed the man, and fled the scene.

Chief Resident Superior Court Judge Alan Z. Thornburg handed down the prison sentence following consultation with the victims of these cases. District Attorney Todd Williams expressed satisfaction with the resolution, which avoided a jury trial and secured a prison sentence for Bellamy.
