Farmer dies in freak accident while repairing grain silo

DECATUR COUNTY, GA – A sudden mishap on a Georgia farm resulted in the tragic death of a worker. The incident took place at Rentz Farm Supply in Decatur County on Tuesday morning, as per Chief Wendell Cofer of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

A team was working on repairing a grain silo roof, which had been damaged by a tornado. Suddenly, a large chunk of metal fell into the silo, fatally striking one of the workers inside, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Steve Clark, an investigator with the Sheriff’s Office, noted that although the entire team was involved at the scene, the deceased was not directly involved in ongoing operations at the time of the accident. According to Clark, the worker was simply “helping out.”

While using a beam to fortify the roof, it abruptly fell, hitting the worker’s head and shoulder. Clark considers it truly fortunate that none of the remaining team was injured in the accident.

As the incident has deeply affected the tight-knit farm community, the worker’s next of kin is being contacted to inform them of the unfortunate incident. Clark knew the worker personally and noted his loss has deeply impacted his colleagues and family alike.

Investigators have stated that the incident appears to have been an unfortunate accident.
