Father and 10-year-old son arrested after son uses stolen gun to shoot another child

SACRAMENTO, CA – A father and his 10-year-old son were apprehended by law enforcement in California on Saturday following a tragic incident where the boy allegedly shot and killed another child of the same age using a stolen firearm.

The weapon was reportedly discovered by the son inside his father’s vehicle. The Sacramento County police were alerted about a shooting incident, arriving at the scene to find a young boy unresponsive, suffering from severe head and neck injuries, according to an official statement.

Eyewitnesses at the scene informed the deputies that the individuals involved in the shooting had fled into a nearby apartment. The deputies managed to call out and detain all the occupants of the apartment without any further incidents. Among those detained were an adult and two juveniles.

The father, identified as 53-year-old Arkete Davis, and his son, whose identity was not disclosed by the police, were arrested.

The incident occurred on Greenholme Drive in California on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, and is currently under investigation by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators arrived at the scene, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Their investigation revealed that one of the detained juveniles, a 10-year-old boy, had gone to his father’s vehicle to fetch cigarettes. The boy then retrieved a gun from the vehicle, boasting about his father’s possession of the firearm. The child then allegedly shot the victim once before fleeing to a nearby apartment.

A firearm was later discovered in a nearby trashcan, believed to have been discarded by Davis. The police confirmed that Davis was legally forbidden from owning or possessing a firearm.

The victim, a 10-year-old boy, was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Davis now faces multiple felony firearm charges, alongside child endangerment and accessory to a crime after the fact. His son, currently held in a youth detention facility, is facing murder charges.

Davis’s bail has been set at $500,000. The firearm used in the shooting was reported stolen in 2017.
