TREASURE ISLAND, FL – An elderly man from Florida tragically lost his life on Saturday night after being repeatedly run over by a truck operated by his own son, law enforcement officials have reported.
The incident occurred just past 8:30 p.m. at the R Bar in Treasure Island, Florida. Deputies arrived on the scene to discover a 2019 black Dodge Ram parked in reverse in the lot. The victim, identified as 86-year-old Thomas McKeown, was found near the vehicle.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations suggest that McKeown had approached the truck and seemingly stumbled, falling in front of it. The vehicle then began to move, running over McKeown and dragging him beneath it. The driver reportedly reversed and drove forward multiple times, each time striking the elderly man, before fleeing the scene.
Further probing led deputies to Thomas McKeown’s son, 61-year-old Mark McKeown, who was identified as the driver of the truck. Mark McKeown was apprehended and has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death.
Thomas McKeown was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are considering the possibility of impairment being a factor in the tragic incident, but the investigation is still ongoing.
