BALTIMORE, MD – A 24-year-old man, Angelo Spencer, has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of a 73-year-old grandmother in her Bel Air home. The accused, now facing murder and rape charges, allegedly also assaulted the woman’s teenage granddaughter.
The quiet community is left in shock after Cathy Bland, a beloved resident of Bedford Road, was fatally attacked inside her residence on Thursday. Neighbors remembered Bland as a kind person, causing the incident to leave them in total shock and disbelief.
According to Bel Air police, Spencer assaulted and stabbed Bland 25 times. They believe Spencer was in the house to meet her 17-year-old granddaughter, who has been identified as Spencer’s ex-girlfriend in court records.
Harford County sheriff’s deputies apprehended Spencer from his Abingdon residence on Thursday afternoon. Spencer reportedly admitted to stabbing Bland with a pocketknife, stating he “panicked and then continued to stab” her.
In the same incident, Spencer is said to have assaulted the 17-year-old granddaughter upstairs in the house prior to fleeing the scene.
Charlotte Green, a co-worker of Spencer, defended him in court on Friday, describing him as a good man. She expressed disbelief at the incident, suggesting that something must have caused Spencer to react explosively.
Spencer remains in custody without bond, facing life imprisonment if convicted. He appeared for his bail review on Friday via video link but chose not to comment.
