Honda Prologue: The New SUV Game-Changer!

Healdsburg, California – Honda has finally entered the electric vehicle market, albeit a little behind schedule, with the release of the 2024 Honda Prologue. While Honda had previously focused on hybrid powertrains for models like the Accord and CR-V, the company has made a notable entry into the electric vehicle segment with the launch of the Prologue. This move comes after Honda’s collaboration with General Motors, utilizing GM’s Ultium platform to develop the Prologue and a counterpart for Acura.

The Prologue, positioned as an electric SUV, is set to compete with popular electric vehicles like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. Honda’s decision to use GM’s Ultium platform has raised questions following GM’s recent stop-sale of the Chevy Blazer EV due to software issues. However, Honda has clarified that the software used in the Prologue is unique to Honda, separate from GM’s software.

The Prologue is available in various trims, offering a range of options including front-wheel and all-wheel drive models. Its EX trim comes with a single motor capable of 212 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 85kWh battery to provide a 296-mile range. Meanwhile, the Elite trim features a dual-motor setup and is capable of producing 288 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque, with a slightly reduced 273-mile range.

Despite the rollout of the Prologue, some concerns have been raised about its charging capabilities, particularly when compared to other electric vehicles in the market. The Prologue’s DC fast charge maxes out at 155kW, which falls short of competitors like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, Honda has partnered with charging networks like Tesla, EVgo, and Electrify America to streamline the charging experience for Prologue owners.

In terms of interior features, the Prologue boasts a range of amenities, including heated front seats, wireless charging, and a digital gauge cluster. The vehicle is also equipped with Honda’s Sensing suite of driver assistance features, offering forward collision alert, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and more.

The 2024 Honda Prologue is set to hit the market with a price tag starting at $48,795 for the front-wheel drive EX trim, with the top-tier all-wheel drive Elite trim priced at $59,295. While the vehicle may not be eligible for the $7,500 EV federal tax credit at the moment, its arrival marks an important step for Honda as the company works towards its goal of introducing 30 new EVs globally by 2030.
