A tragic incident unfolded in Graymoor-Devondale, Louisiana, as a woman was shot multiple times in what authorities are describing as a domestic violence situation. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, later took his own life.

Ashley Yates, a resident of Louisiana, was shot multiple times outside a store at Westport Village in Graymoor-Devondale on June 30. Civilians at the scene provided initial aid to Yates before she was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital. Tragically, she did not survive her injuries. Lyndon Police Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed that the incident was a result of domestic violence.

According to Andrew Thompson, the victim’s brother, Ashley had been threatened before and had reasons to leave her assailant. However, she found herself trapped in a cycle of returning to the individual. Thompson revealed that the suspect was aware of Ashley’s whereabouts and waited for her outside her workplace. He expressed his belief that Ashley is now in heaven, while the perpetrator will have to answer for his actions.

The suspect, whose name has not been made public, took his own life the following day. The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department stated that the case is now closed due to the offender’s death.

Ashley Yates was remembered as a “beautiful soul” who had a strong faith. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for her funeral expenses. The page describes Ashley as someone who cherished life and lived each day to the fullest. Her brother, Thompson, shared that Ashley was his biggest fan and always supported him.

Chief Schroeder emphasized the importance of seeking help for those experiencing domestic violence. He encouraged victims to reach out to the police or various agencies dedicated to assisting them.
