Man arrested for kidnapping and murdering a 4-year-old boy

ATLANTA, GA – The Atlanta Police Department has apprehended a suspect who was connected to the murder and abduction of a 4-year-old boy that took place earlier in December. Rodney McWeay was arrested on December 21 for his alleged involvement in the week-old incident.

Police officers received a distress call on December 11, reporting an unresponsive child from a property on Renfrew Court SW. Upon arrival, they discovered a lifeless boy who was not breathing. Following immediate transportation to the hospital by emergency services, the young boy was pronounced dead.

Residents in the vicinity were left shocked by the news of the murder. Reflecting on the quiet family and regularly witnessing children playing outside, one neighbor, James Saunders, said he would see them when he visited his mother.

McWeay, now in police custody, is facing an array of charges including first-degree child cruelty, second-degree child cruelty, murder, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. Authorities have not yet disclosed how McWeay is linked to the 4-year-old victim.

The recent charges add to McWeay’s existing criminal record, with charges against him dating back to May and June of this year. Following his arrest, he has been detained at the Fulton County Jail and is currently being held without bond.
