Man busted in assassination plot involving crossbow and a hitman

SIKESTON, MO – A 64-year-old man from Illinois, Ben Patrick Mullavey, is facing legal consequences for allegedly plotting the assassination of his ex-business associate in Florida using a crossbow and arrow, as reported by law enforcement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri revealed that Mullavey was willing to pay up to $10,000 for the execution. Mullavey claimed his former partner owed him $200,000, and his legal attempts to recover the debt were proving unsuccessful.

Reports indicate that Mullavey sought to hire an individual to carry out the killing and arranged a meeting in Sikeston, Missouri, to discuss the details.

During this encounter, Mullavey furnished the prospective hitman with the name and description of his ex-business partner, along with specific instructions on how he desired the execution to be conducted.

Further details reveal that Mullavey provided the hitman with a $1,000 “prepayment,” additional funds for miscellaneous expenses, directions to a restaurant adjacent to the intended victim’s wine bar, a Florida license plate for disguise, and the unconventional weapon for the planned murder.

If found guilty, Mullavey could be looking at a maximum of ten years in federal prison, a fine up to $250,000, or a combination of both.
