Man kills three family members in triple murder-suicide

ELKRIDGE, MD – A catastrophic triple murder-suicide left the tight-knit community of Elkridge, Howard County in shock after it took place on Thursday night. Authorities were dispatched to the unsettling scene in the 6900 block of Norwood Ferry around 10 p.m. due to reports of gunfire from concerned neighbors. When they arrived, responding officers discovered three deceased individuals inside of the home in addition to two injured men.

Police have named the perpetrator as Nayyar Abbas Syed, a 61-year-old man who later succumbed to his injuries at St. Agnes hospital. Among the victims of his violent outburst were Syed’s wife, 57-year-old Syeda Aalia Nayyar; their 25-year-old daughter, Syeda Fatima; and Syed’s 33-year-old daughter-in-law, Alizey Fatima, all of whom were declared dead at the location.

The only survivor of the traumatic incident is Syed’s son, Muhammad Ali Hamza, 31, who is presently battling critical injuries at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Centre. A three-month-old girl, reportedly Syed’s granddaughter, was found unscathed in the house. She has undergone a medical check at the hospital and will be dispatched to the care of a family member.
