Miami man shot while walking with his girlfriend

MIAMI, FL – A Miami-Dade County man is fighting for his life after being shot in the chest in the Naranja area on Tuesday, according to local law enforcement. The victim, Christopher Chiofalo, was in the company of his girlfriend when the shooting took place.

The alleged assailant, Roosevelt Roberts, is said to have shot Chiofalo near the South Miami-Dade Busway and Southwest 272 Street, also known as Epmore Drive. Witnesses reported an altercation followed by a gunshot, and a man was seen running from the scene.

Responding to the incident around 3:20 p.m., Miami-Dade police officers found Chiofalo injured near a Jiffy Lube at 26990 S. Dixie Highway. Emergency personnel from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed Chiofalo to Jackson South Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police later apprehended Roberts while he was walking westbound along Southwest 280 Street near 143 Court. The reasons behind the shooting and the argument that led to it are yet to be determined. Roberts was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Roberts was already on the radar of the Florida Department of Corrections as an “absconder/fugitive” under supervision for a probation felony from 2019 to 2024. His rap sheet includes convictions in 2019, 2020, and 2022 for operating as an unlicensed pawnbroker. Additionally, Miami-Dade records show that Roberts has been arrested around a dozen times in the past ten years for various offenses, including grand theft and marijuana possession.

Roberts is now facing charges of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and providing a false name after arrest. He was already on probation for a case involving dealing in stolen property. The attempted murder case is being overseen by Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Michelle A. Delancy, with a bond review slated for Thursday morning and an arraignment set for October 10.
