Michigan mother in custody after drowning and stabbing daughter

In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old mother from Albion, Michigan has been taken into custody after allegedly stabbing her 2-year-old daughter multiple times and attempting to drown her. The Albion Department of Public Safety (ADPS) and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on Saturday where children could be heard screaming and asking for help.

Upon arrival, the officers found the woman holding her 2-year-old daughter underwater in the bathtub. An officer quickly grabbed the child and administered CPR, successfully reviving the toddler after a few quick breaths. The woman was detained, and after a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that she is the mother of four children living in the house.

According to the police, the 2-year-old girl had stab wounds in the chest and throat, and the woman’s 4-year-old son had cuts. Investigators also believe that the 2-year-old and 4-year-old ingested cleaning fluid. The woman’s 15-year-old, who made the initial 911 call, and an 8-year-old did not appear to have injuries.

Both the 2-year-old and 4-year-old were taken to a hospital in Jackson before being flown to Ann Arbor, where they were listed in stable condition. The mother may have also ingested cleaning fluid, and she is currently in custody.

ADPS Chief Scott Kipp commended the responding law enforcement officials from his department and from the sheriff’s office for their quick actions that helped save the 2-year-old child.

This incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support for those struggling with mental health issues. It is unclear at this time what led to the mother’s alleged actions, but it is clear that she needs help and support.
