Two dead in supermarket murder-suicide

Ohio – The North Olmsted Police Department is investigating a tragic incident that occurred at the Giant Eagle supermarket on Sunday morning. According to reports, two people were found with gunshot wounds inside the store after police responded to a call of shots fired at around 9:35 a.m.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old Susan Petterson of Olmsted Township, an employee at Giant Eagle. The alleged shooter, 60-year-old Edward Smith of Cleveland, is believed to be Petterson’s ex-husband. The couple got divorced in 2004, and authorities suspect that the divorce may have played a role in the incident.

At the time of the shooting, there were approximately 67 employees and 200 customers inside the store. Giant Eagle released a statement expressing their shock and sadness at the senseless act of violence and emphasizing their commitment to the safety of their team members and guests.

North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones also released a statement expressing her condolences to the victim’s family and friends and acknowledging the trauma experienced by the employees and customers present during the incident.
