Mom starts shooting in school parking lot after basketball game

HUEYTOWN, AL – A dispute that broke out after a high school basketball game resulted in a mother being accused of firing shots in the school’s parking lot, according to authorities in Alabama.

Eunethia Annette Shackleford, a 30-year-old resident of Hueytown, was taken into custody on Saturday. She is now facing criminal charges of attempted murder and possessing a deadly weapon on school premises.

The incident took place in the parking area of Hueytown High School after a basketball game between Hueytown and Leeds.

According to authorities, Shackleford is the mother of a young man involved in a heated argument in the parking lot. Witnesses recount that a group of young people were engaged in a squabble in the parking lot around approximately 9:30 p.m. CST when a deputy was alerted about shots being fired.

Shackleford, identified as a family member of one of those involved in the clash, allegedly discharged her firearm into the air and subsequently fled the site along with some of the young people disputedly involved in the incident, the news outlet reported.

The sheriff’s office confirmed there were no injuries resulting from the event. Shackleford, currently held at the Jefferson County Jail, faces bonds amounting to $67,500.

The incident drew stern condemnation from Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter B. Gonsoulin Jr., who referred to the alleged behavior as “irresponsible.”
