Murder suspect in shootout with police

DOLTON, IL – A man suspected of a murder in Chicago was arrested on Saturday evening in Dolton, a southern suburb, after a gunfight with law enforcement, as per official reports.

The confrontation occurred around 5:45 p.m. on South Meadow Lane’s 15200 block. Chicago police officers and SWAT team members were conducting a follow-up investigation when they spotted the suspect. It was then that an exchange of gunfire ensued, according to police reports.

Following the shootout, the suspect was apprehended and a firearm was found at the scene. Authorities confirmed that there were no reported injuries.

In line with departmental policy, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave for a period of 30 days.

Earlier, Dolton police had urged residents in a part of the community to stay indoors while the search for the suspect was ongoing. By 9:15 p.m., the police confirmed that the suspect was in custody.

While the authorities confirmed that the suspected homicide took place in Chicago, they refrained from divulging further details. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability in Chicago is currently investigating the incident.
