Officer investigating stolen cars shot in the head

SAN DIEGO, CA – A late-night investigation took a violent turn in San Diego when a police sergeant was shot while looking into a potentially stolen vehicle in a supermarket parking lot, local authorities reported.

Eyewitnesses who were present at the scene called 911, reporting a gunfight that broke out in the parking lot around 11:35 p.m. on Thursday. This account was later confirmed by Lt. Matthew Carpenter of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Lt. Adam Sharki, also with the sheriff’s department, the sergeant was hit in the head by a bullet during the shootout. The officer’s injuries were severe enough to require immediate hospital treatment.

In addition to the injured sergeant, another person involved in the shooting was also taken to the hospital, San Diego police have confirmed. The identity and role of this individual in the incident remain undisclosed.

As of now, additional information regarding the incident, including the current conditions of the sergeant and the suspect, are yet to be released.
