Officer shoots armed suspect outside Lowes store

NASHUA, NH – A man armed with a gun was fatally shot by police outside a Lowe’s home improvement store on Sunday night, following a report from Pelham police that he had left his home with a firearm.

Responding to the alert, Nashua police confronted the man in the store’s parking lot. During the encounter, officers attempted to subdue him using less-lethal munitions, but the situation escalated, leading one officer to discharge their firearm. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, noting that an autopsy had been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity.

No officers were injured during the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing. The shooting prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order in the surrounding area as a precautionary measure.

The confrontation and subsequent shooting highlight the complexities and dangers law enforcement officers face when responding to armed individuals. The incident has raised questions about the use of force and the protocols followed by police in such high-stakes situations.

As authorities continue their investigation, the community awaits further details and clarity on the events that led to the fatal shooting. The outcome of the autopsy and the findings of the investigation will likely play a crucial role in understanding the full context of the incident.
