One killed, five injured, in bar shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A violent incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday in Indianapolis, resulting in one fatality and five injuries, including a police officer. The altercation took place in a bar’s parking lot, where two off-duty officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were working.

The officers, fully uniformed, responded to a disturbance in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. The situation escalated, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the officers and at least one suspect. One officer was shot in the upper thigh and sustained a shoulder injury, possibly from falling after being shot. The officer, currently in stable condition, is expected to be released from the hospital today.

Additional officers arrived at the scene to find four more victims of the shooting. All four were transported to local hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. The victims ranged in age from 33 to 45.

Shortly after the incident, a man arrived at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis with gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the man succumbed to his injuries. Detectives believe he was involved in the shooting, but his identity will be released by the Marion County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.

Investigators found a firearm at the scene. The cause of the initial disturbance is still unknown, but investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
