Pickup truck driver tries to kill man in road rage stabbing

NEW YORK, NY – A horrifying road rage incident in New York City has culminated in attempted murder charges. On Tuesday night, 28-year-old Antal Lakatos, driving a Mercedes sedan, allegedly rammed 38-year-old Shaker Ahmad’s pickup truck on the Queensboro Bridge, causing a sequence of violent events resulting in a stabbing.

Following the initial collision, Ahmad fled the scene, but Lakatos gave chase. In the Upper East Side, around East 62nd Street and Lexington Avenue, Lakatos reportedly rear-ended the pickup, causing it to slam into a light post.

Patrol officers from the 19th Precinct responded upon hearing the crash. Ahmad then left his truck and allegedly stabbed Lakatos multiple times as he sat in his vehicle.

Officers quickly acted to aid the injured Lakatos while also handcuffing Ahmad. In addition to the attempted murder charges, Ahmad is facing counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Lakatos, in stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center, is charged with attempted assault. Past records indicate that both individuals involved have criminal histories. Ahmad served jail time for a second-degree assault conviction, and Lakatos has previous charges for driving with a suspended license and grand larceny auto.
