Police officer shot while helping robbery victims

PHOENIX, AZ – Two individuals are facing multiple charges tied to a shooting case that resulted in injuries to a Phoenix police officer. The event unfolded on March 29 near 35th and Southern Avenues when Officer Harold Boswell responded to reports of an attempted robbery targeting two women in a parked car around 11:30 p.m.

As Officer Boswell approached the group, one of the alleged offenders armed with a handgun fired several rounds in his direction. Boswell, who was off duty but wearing his uniform, was hit multiple times but did not return fire.

While Boswell was admitted to the hospital after the incident, he has since been discharged and is recuperating at home. His prognosis indicates a full recovery.

Mathew Rodriguez, 17, and Jamiah Thomas Mower, 19, have subsequently been indicted in relation to the case by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Rodriguez, though underage, is being charged as an adult.

The charges leveled against the pair encompass armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

A third suspect, a teenager, is currently being tried in the juvenile court, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

“Officer Boswell is a hero who was trying to help two victims being threatened at gunpoint,” remarked Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “These defendants are a young adult and a juvenile facing very serious felonies, but the danger to Officer Boswell and the victims cannot be understated.”
