Pregnant Woman, Man Found Dead, In Upscale Home

Police are investigating the two shooting deaths as a possible murder-suicide, but have not released the victims’ identities or a suspected motive.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A pregnant woman and a man were found shot to death inside a Westwood home early Friday, prompting a Los Angeles Police Department investigation into what authorities described as a possible murder-suicide.

Officers responded at about 5:40 a.m. July 10 to a multistory residence in the 1300 block of Holmby Avenue, near Wellworth Avenue and west of the Los Angeles Country Club. Police entered the home and found the two adults dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Law enforcement sources told NBC Los Angeles that the woman was pregnant.

The names and ages of the man and woman had not been released Friday. Police also had not publicly confirmed their relationship, identified who may have fired the shots or said how far along the woman was in her pregnancy. Early news reports described the case as an apparent or possible murder-suicide, but a final determination remained pending.

Police were alerted by a caller who reported that two people were dead inside the residence, according to the department. Authorities had not identified the caller or explained how that person learned of the deaths. It was also unclear whether the caller was inside the home when police were contacted.

The residence is in a quiet neighborhood of Westwood, near Holmby Park and just west of the Los Angeles Country Club. Officers remained at the property as detectives examined the scene and worked to establish a timeline of the shooting.

Authorities had not announced whether a firearm was recovered or whether investigators found evidence explaining what happened before the deaths. No information about prior police calls to the home, possible domestic disputes or other circumstances surrounding the case had been released.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner is expected to formally identify the two people and determine their causes and manners of death. Those findings may also address the death of the woman’s unborn child. Medical examiner records were not immediately available Friday.

The investigation remained active, and police had not announced that they were searching for another suspect. Authorities said additional details would be released after relatives were notified and detectives completed more of their work at the scene.
