Prosecutors seek death penalty in case of father who allegedly shot his two sons

Donald Ray Jackson Jr., a 43-year-old man from Leavenworth, Kansas, has been barricaded with capital murder charges after the death of his two sons, Austin and Logan.

County Attorney Todd Thompson held an expansive meeting on Wednesday, declaring his intention to seek the death penalty for Jackson. Without surprise, Jackson’s defense announced their inability to put him in the stand for trial before 2025.

Events that move this situation forward started on October 24th, 2020, when Jackson and his two sons failed to show up for a soccer game.

Police issued an Amber Alert, searching for Jackson and his two daughters, 3 and 7 years old.

Hours later, Jackson was located in Beckham County, Oklahoma with both girls inside his car. At the time the bodies of his two sons were found back at the rural home in Leavenworth.
