Kansas City, Missouri – The Tampa Bay Rays made a significant move on Wednesday morning, trading struggling starter Aaron Civale to the Milwaukee Brewers. This trade not only opens up space in the Rays rotation but also saves money and brings in infield prospect Gregory Barrios.
Civale, acquired by the Rays from Cleveland last year, has had a tough time in Tampa Bay, posting a 4-9 record with a 5.17 ERA in 27 starts. With this move, the Rays will save a significant amount of money on Civale’s salary for this season and avoid a potential raise in arbitration for 2025.
The departure of Civale creates an opportunity for pitcher Shane Baz to step into the rotation. In exchange for Civale, the Rays also acquired 20-year-old prospect Gregory Barrios, who is considered the No. 21 prospect in the Milwaukee organization. Barrios will join the Rays High Class-A affiliate in Bowling Green.
