Paris, France – An impressive feat was achieved in the heart of Paris as Anouk Garnier, a French athlete, set a new world record for rope climbing at the iconic Eiffel Tower. Garnier, 34, ascended 110 meters to the tower’s second floor in just 18 minutes, surpassing previous records and raising funds for cancer support.

Garnier expressed her elation after completing the climb, stating, “My dream has come true. It’s magical.” Her determination and perseverance paid off as she conquered the challenge two minutes faster than expected. Despite facing various obstacles along the way, including unfavorable weather conditions and logistical challenges, Garnier never wavered in her belief that she could achieve this remarkable feat. The satisfaction and joy she felt upon reaching the top were immeasurable.

Prior to Garnier’s record-breaking climb, the world record for rope climbing was held by South African athlete Thomas Van Tonder, who climbed 90 meters at the Soweto Towers in Johannesburg in 2020. Meanwhile, Danish athlete Ida Mathilde Steensgaard held the female record by climbing 26 meters at the Copenhagen Opera House in 2022.

Garnier now holds the record for the highest climb and the highest female climb, marking a significant milestone in her athletic career. Her foray into rope climbing began in 2022 after winning the world obstacle course championship for her age group, seeking a new challenge inspired by Steensgaard’s achievement.

Reflecting on her preparation for the climb, Garnier shared her gratitude for the unwavering support of her family, who instilled in her the values of discipline and excellence. Additionally, her personal connection to cancer drove her to raise funds for the League Against Cancer, motivated by her mother’s battle with the disease.

Looking ahead, Garnier plans to continue pursuing challenges in obstacle racing and will carry the Olympic torch in Marseille in May. Despite her upcoming endeavors, she remains focused on maintaining her peak physical condition for the years to come, setting her sights on future accomplishments and new goals.
