Released Patriots Receiver DeVante Parker Finds New Home, Patriots Sign Antonio Gibson in Shake-Up

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots made a significant roster move by informing veteran wide receiver DeVante Parker of his release on Wednesday. Sources revealed that the Patriots are parting ways with Parker, giving him the opportunity to seek new opportunities with other teams, according to Parker’s agent, Jimmy Gould.

In a corresponding move, the Patriots have reached a three-year agreement with former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson. The deal, with a base value of $11.25 million and maximum value of $17.25 million, solidifies Gibson’s role in the Patriots’ offense as a top complement to No. 1 running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who is entering his final contract year in 2024.

Gibson brings a strong background as a receiver, showcasing his versatility and playmaking ability over his four-year career. With 642 carries for 2,643 yards and 22 touchdowns, as well as 172 receptions for 1,283 yards and 7 touchdowns, Gibson’s skill set adds a dynamic element to the Patriots’ offense under the direction of first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.

As for Parker, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver signed a three-year, up to $33 million deal with the Patriots last July. Known for his downfield playmaking ability, Parker will now seek new opportunities as he embarks on his 10th NFL season in 2024 after a season with 33 receptions for 394 yards without any touchdown catches.

Originally drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins in 2015, Parker spent seven years of his career with the Dolphins before being traded to the Patriots in exchange for a third-round pick in April 2022. The Patriots’ decision to release Parker reflects their ongoing efforts to reshape their offense and build a competitive roster for the upcoming season.
