Security guard shot at Family Dollar in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL – A security officer was fatally shot at a Family Dollar outlet in Chicago’s West Side, as per local law enforcement reports. The incident took place on Friday afternoon around 1:30 p.m.

The assailant reportedly walked up to 43-year-old Loyce Wright brandishing a rifle and opened fire within the store premises. Wright, who was on duty as the store’s security guard, was hit multiple times.

Following the shooting, Wright was immediately transported to Stroger Hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by local law enforcement.

Jessie Brown, a fellow security officer working at a neighboring store, recounted the tragic incident. He recalled hearing the gunfire and rushing over to find his friend, Wright, wounded on the ground. Brown and Wright had been friends for two decades, both sharing a passion for their profession in security.

Brown remembered Wright as a dedicated worker and a good friend, whose primary focus was providing for his family. The incident has left him and the community in shock.

The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating the case. As of now, no suspect has been apprehended. Dollar Tree Inc., the parent company of Family Dollar, has not yet responded to requests for a comment on the incident.
