Settlement Deadline Approaching for Walmart Weighted Groceries Class-Action Lawsuit

Bentonville, Arkansas – Shoppers who bought weighted groceries and bagged citrus fruit at Walmart may be eligible to file a claim in a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed in October 2022, alleged that Walmart overcharged customers who purchased certain sold-by-weight groceries like meat, poultry, pork, and seafood, and some organic oranges and grapefruit. According to the suit, customers paid more than the lowest in-store advertised price for these products.

A $45 million settlement was reached in September 2023, allowing shoppers who bought groceries between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, to potentially receive up to $500. To benefit from the settlement, eligible customers must submit a claim by June 5, 2024. Those who do not wish to be part of the settlement have until May 22, 2024, to choose to opt-out.

Customers without receipts can still submit a claim for a payment between $10 and $25, depending on the number of products they attest to purchasing. Walmart has denied any wrongdoing in this settlement but believes that reaching an agreement is in the best interest of all parties involved. An approval hearing is scheduled for June 12, 2024.

As retailers like Walmart reconsider their self-checkout systems, it is crucial for consumers to be aware of their rights and the potential for recourse in cases where they may have been overcharged or misled. This settlement serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accuracy in pricing practices within the retail industry.

The deadline for filing a claim in the Walmart class-action suit is approaching, and those who believe they are eligible should take the necessary steps to ensure they receive any potential compensation. By following the submission guidelines outlined by the settlement agreement, affected shoppers can seek redress for any alleged misconduct in the sale of weighted groceries and bagged citrus fruit at Walmart.
