Student arrested for murdering his roommate and another student over trash duties

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – A man accused of fatally shooting two individuals, including his roommate, on the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs (UCCS) campus last week, made his first court appearance in El Paso County on Friday. The court documents revealed that the accused, Nicholas Jordan, had a strained relationship with his roommates, with disputes over household chores escalating to threats.

Nicholas Trevon Jordan, a 25-year-old Detroit native and UCCS student, is facing two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Samuel Knopp, a 24-year-old UCCS student from Parker, and Celie Rain Montgomery from Pueblo.

Jordan shared a dorm, known as a “POD,” with Knopp and another male student. The dormitory layout included a common area and four separate bedrooms, each with a lockable door. Knopp and Montgomery were discovered dead from gunshot wounds in Knopp’s room.

The third roommate, who occupied another bedroom, alerted the police after hearing gunshots and a moaning sound. The fourth bedroom was vacant at the time of the incident.

The court papers disclosed that Jordan had been reported by Knopp and the other roommate for creating unsafe living conditions due to his habits of smoking marijuana, cigarettes, and not disposing of his trash properly.

The documents also revealed a heated argument in January between Knopp and Jordan over a bag of garbage, during which Jordan allegedly threatened to kill Knopp if he was asked to take out the trash again.

Following his arrest in Colorado Springs on Monday, Jordan’s bond was set at $5 million during a Tuesday hearing.

UCCS, where the incident occurred, is situated on Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeast Colorado Springs. It is one of four institutions within the University of Colorado system, with the others located in Boulder, Denver, and Aurora.
